Stone Setting
A ring is a vase that holds precious stones instead of flowers. To us, it is like building a tiny bookshelf. Feel free to ask about different types of settings.
Stone Setting Workshops - I am now offering a stone-setting workshop without fabrication. Most engagement rings today are made in production and bought by individual jewelers who set the stones themselves. If you like the traditional look of most prong-set engagement rings, you can buy a pre-made unset ring for much less than you would expect. A stone-setting only workshop is only $375.
While diamonds are most popular stone on display in engagement rings today, many rings showcase sapphires, rubies, moissanite, sentimental objects, or nothing at all. Remember that diamonds (and all stones) come in numerous shapes and sizes.
If you already have a stone:
We can set it into your ring in my studio. If it is already set in a ring, bring it by in advance (if possible) so we can measure and remove it from the setting. If it is loose, give me the specs from the GIA report, if you have one.
If you want to buy a diamond:
If you want some basic advice on buying diamonds, feel free to call. You may want to discuss your design before purchasing a diamond, as design could help determine the diamond specs. As a general rule, diamonds either sell for exactly what they're worth, or above what they're worth. Be wary of any "good deals."
If you don't want a diamond:
If you or she do not want a diamond, there are numerous excellent alternatives that are beautiful and less expensive. Almost anything small and durable can be part of an engagement ring, and an engagement ring need not have a centerpiece at all.
